Published research context (not product claims)
Melanotan-2 was developed in academic melanocortin programmes as a cyclic analogue of α-MSH fragments. Papers describe it as a research agonist at melanocortin receptors (including MC1R, MC3R and MC4R in experimental systems). That work covers receptor binding, pigmentation pathways in models, and other melanocortin-axis assays.
A different linear analogue, afamelanotide (melanotan-1), has a separate authorised indication in some countries as a prescription medicine. Melanotan-2 is not that product and has no UK marketing authorisation.
UK regulators have issued public warnings about unlicensed melanotan sold for human use. This page does not offer the vial for that purpose.
